FOR UTS STUDENTS ONLY. UTS offers a confidential counselling service to help with a wide range of personal, psychological, study-related and administrative difficulties. If you have urgent situations after-hours, please use the emergency contacts list.
Our counsellors specialise in supporting students through the situations that can bring their personal and / or academic life down. Whether you have a complaint, would like an appeal, or simply need someone to talk to confidentially, we’re here to help.
In relation to your studies, we exist to help you prioritise, make important decisions and manage your time and energy levels more effectively and deal with stress, as well as deal with UTS administrative issues when other avenues have failed.
In your personal life, we’re here to help you to share and express painful feelings or confidential concerns; develop new strategies for dealing with relationships, fears and unwanted behaviour patterns; understand and deal with problems relating to mental health, alcohol and other drugs; body image or eating problems; and support around matters of gender and sexuality.
In some cases, your counsellor may refer you to another professional who can better help you; for example a private psychologist, psychiatrist, GP, and specialist mental health services.
During your initial session, your counsellor will explain what the therapy involves, how many sessions may be needed, and what outcomes can be expected. Although counselling can arouse strong feelings or unpleasant memories, it may also include gaining greater self-awareness, mastering problems, and enjoying an improved ability to cope with pressures throughout your life.
UTS offer a confidential counselling service to help with a wide range of personal, psychological, study-related and administrative difficulties.
